Delegates will understand what is meant by the term chaperone. What an “intimate examination” is and why chaperones may need to be present.
The rights of the patient will be explored, along with the role and responsibility of the chaperone and the policies and mechanisms for raising any concerns.
This is a non accredited training course and will therefore be certificated by ARC Training Academy.
The course duration is: 2 hours.
There are no entry requirements for this qualification. This course is targeted at individuals who are currently or aspiring to work in patient care.
From this training, delegates will have a further understanding of the terms “chaperone” and “intimate examination”. This may be of beneficiary to the delegate within their current role.
A chaperone is a trained individual who is present during certain medical examinations or procedures to provide support and reassurance to the patient, and to protect both the patient and healthcare professional from potential misunderstandings or allegations.
A chaperone can be a healthcare assistant, nurse, or other trained staff member. In some cases, non-clinical staff may act as a chaperone, provided they have received appropriate chaperone training and understand their responsibilities.
While not legally mandated, NHS guidelines and GMC (General Medical Council) guidance strongly recommend that all staff expected to act as chaperones receive formal training to ensure they understand their role and boundaries.
Yes. Upon completion, we issue a certificate of attendance or completion, which can be kept in your staff file for CQC inspections or audits.
No. A chaperone should be offered for any patient undergoing an intimate or potentially sensitive examination, regardless of gender, especially if the patient requests one.
